Peppermint Hot Chocolate

New years is just around the corner, and it gets a girl wondering: what are my resolutions? What do I want to accomplish during the year of 2012?

Every year my resolution is the same, and every year I fail within the first week.

You are probably thinking that I'm dreaming big. To be a vegetarian, or to go to the gym every day.

But no. I've been trying to start small, and I cannot get past this one stage. My new years resolution is, yet again, to floss everyday. The compliment I hear most from people is that my teeth are gorgeous. All from flossing maybe 50 times in my lifetime.

But this year I am determined. I have bought a lot of floss, and have even stashed some in my purses, so I will have no excuse.

And I think especially need to take care of my teeth at this time of year. Do you know how many sweet treats I have indulged in this holiday season?

Actually, don't guess. I think I would prefer not to know. I will try to remain ignorant as I drink this hot chocolate jam-packed with chocolate and sugar that I will forget what I was thinking about in the first place.

Makes 1 drink
What you'll need:

-1 1/2 cups milk
-2 tablespoons sugar
-3 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
-1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
+whipped cream

Directions:

    1.   In a saucepan on medium heat, combine the milk and sugar. When it negins to steam, add the chopped chocolate and stir until the chocolate is melted. Remove from heat and mix in the peppermint extract.
    2.   When the drink is to your desired temperature, remove from heat and pour into a mug. Top with whipped cream.

  5. I love homemade hot chocolate - it's such a wonderful treat! I make it each year when my husband and I go out to look at all the Christmas lights in our neighborhood a few days before Christmas. Peppermint is my favorite way to change it up! Yum!
